В Вашингтоне состоялся марш «Бесслоный полк», посвященный памяти участников Великой Отечественной войны со стороны Советского Союза. Об этом сообщило посольство России в США. В шествии приняли участие несколько сотен человек, которые несли портреты своих родственников — ветеранов, сражавшихся против нацистской Германии.Традиция подобных маршей зародилась в 2012 году в российском городе Томске. Идея появилась как способ почтить память участников войны, когда число живых ветеранов стало уменьшаться: их заменили родственники, несущие фотографии предков. Со временем эта инициатива распространилась по России и другим странам.В то время как в России шествия традиционно проходят 9 мая, в Вашингтоне акция состоялась в субботу, за неделю до 81-й годовщины окончания Второй мировой войны. Участники прошли мимо Белого дома с красными знаменами Победы к Мемориалу Второй мировой войны на Национальной аллее, где возложили цветы.Представители российского дипломатического корпуса поблагодарили организаторов и участников за инициативу, назвав её важным шагом в противодействии попыткам переписывания истории и реабилитации нацизма. В отличие от прошлогоднего мероприятия, которое сопровождалось провокациями со стороны проукраинских активистов, в этот раз инцидентов не зафиксировано.Параллельно с Вашингтоном акция прошла и в Нью-Йорке: несколько десятков человек собрались у офиса Постоянного представительства России при ООН. Стоит отметить, что при администрации Джо Байдена проведение подобных шествий ограничивалось из-за коронавирусных ограничений и политической ситуации, однако после возвращения Дональда Трампа к власти марши возобновились.

In the past, WWII veterans had been honored guests at Victory Day parades commemorating Hitler’s defeat, but their numbers had dwindled, so local organizers came up with the idea of inviting their loved ones to march instead, holding their portraits. Since then, the idea has spread across Russia and to other nations.The marches are traditionally held on May 9 in Russia, when the country celebrates Victory Day.
